TERM CLASSES NOW OPEN for Term 1, 2008

All classes are taught with a mix of phonetic lessons and Letterland concepts. Each class is tailored to meet the needs of the children enrolled and includes take home materials that can be used as follow up during the week if desired. Sessions include games and exercises to assist in learning new sounds or concepts and end or begin with a book reading. Parents are given take home notes at the end of each class.

Session 1: Beginners Wednesdays 10-10:35am

For those who know some of the alphabet, this session will assist them in learning more of the alphabet and introduce them to the most common letter sounds in the English language. A pre-requisite is that the student has shown interest in books and/or the alphabet. Students can repeat this session each term until they are ready for session 2.

Session 2: Advanced Wednesdays 10:45-11:20am

For children who know the entire alphabet, this session will build on the sounds they already know to develop the phonetic understanding before introducing them to blending sounds and forming simple words. A pre-requisite to this session is completion of at least one term of session 1 classes and a sound knowledge of the letters of the alphabet by sight. Again, this session may be repeated each term until the student is ready for session 3.

Session 3: Now We Read! Fridays 10-10:35am

For children who know the alphabet and have a solid understanding of their individual sounds. This session will continue work on blending sounds, sounding out simple words and eventually move on to reading full sentences. This session may be repeated until the student is reading simple stories with confidence.
