Ten-year-old Opal goes out for groceries and comes back with a scruffy dog which she promptly names after the grocery store - Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie has a way with people and before you know it, many of the locals are finding themselves in a happier place because of it. Opal and Winn-Dixie form a bond that saves them both from a lonely past. Author Kate DiCamillio is untouchable for this age group - combining entertaining story lines with high quality writing.
